A 28-year-old Des Moines man was injured in a single-vehicle accident that occurred early Monday morning near Water Works Park.
The man was in the vehicle with a 23-year-old Clive man when the car was unable to complete a turn, and crashed near the north entrance to the park. The car was in water when Des Moines police officers arrived on the scene. The 23-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passerby was able to pull the Des Moines man out of the vehicle, and he was then taken to a hospital that was in the area. He suffered injuries, but they were not considered to be life-threatening. An investigation into the car accident has begun, and an autopsy of the 23-year-old will also be conducted.
