Motorcycle rider dies after Mason City accident

A motorcycle rider, who was recently involved in a motorcycle-car accident in Mason City succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at a medical facility in North Iowa, a report of Globe Gazette stated on June 17.

Mason City authorities told reporters that a 2005 Toyota Corolla driven by a 74-year-old woman struck a 2005 Harley-Davidson Sportster driven by a 51-year-old man. The Toyota Corolla entered the southbound lane of North Pierce Avenue when the motorcycle collided with it. Soon after, the man died from the fatal injuries he sustained, while being treated at a hospital.

Crews from the Mason City fire medics treated the woman at the crash scene before she was later discharged. Traffic flow along North Pierce Avenue was stopped while responding authorities worked on the crash site. Personnel from the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office assisted the response teams from the Mason City Fire Department and Mason City Operations.



Iowa OWI offender involved in fatal accident busted again

On June 17, Radio Iowa reported that a woman who was charged for her involvement in a fatal drunk driving (OWI) accident in Des Moines last year was arrested recently in southern Iowa.

A sheriff in Lucas County reported that authorities arrested a 53-year-old woman on June 10 due to suspicions that she was driving a vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants. Deputies later learned that the woman’s blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was 0.112 percent after a preliminary breath test. Records showed the woman was charged in connection to a November 17 OWI accident that killed a 60-year-old man and a 59-year-old man. The woman, who was charged with two counts of vehicular homicide-operating under the influence and vehicular homicide-reckless driving, is scheduled for a court hearing in September.

Man badly injured in Altoona motorcycle accident

A motorcyclist sustained serious injuries in Altoona after the motorcycle he was operating was involved in an accident caused by a negligent driver.

Reports revealed that at around 4:15 p.m. on June 3, a 51-year-old motorcycle driver struck a pickup truck at 14th Street Southeast and Eighth Street Southeast. The motorcycle driver reportedly flew into the air as a result of the collision. Police reported that the motorcycle rider sustained serious injuries. Authorities are pursuing the pickup driver who fled the accident scene. Authorities noted that the collision happened due to the truck driver’s failure to yield.
