Four individuals were injured on December 31 and three of those were airlifted to hospitals with life-threatening injuries after an accident involving a garbage truck and a pickup truck occurred in Fayette County.
Reports coming from Fayette County officials revealed that authorities were notified of a vehicular accident at 6:43 a.m. on Highway 18. Responding personnel stated that the garbage truck, driven by a 23-year-old man, was in the process of reversing onto a farm drive from the highway when a pickup truck collided with it.
The driver of the garbage truck was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. A second man was outside the garbage truck collecting trash when he was struck by a vehicle in the collision. He and the two occupants of the pickup truck were all later airlifted to hospitals in critical condition.
The driver of the garbage truck was issued a citation for improperly backing up on a highway, and the driver of the pickup truck will also be issued a citation for driving with a suspended license.
