Des Moines accident leaves motorcyclist with serious injuries
On Saturday, March 29 a motorcyclist was seriously injured in a Des Moines accident after his vehicle was struck by a drunk driver.
The Iowa Department of Transportation indicated that the accident occurred on East 30th Street when Michael John Harden, 51, was thrown from his motorcycle after being hit by an intoxicated driver. Jacob Robert Phipps, 21, tried to escape the scene of the accident but was detained by witnesses. His blood alcohol was recorded at .191 at the time of the accident.
Harden suffered from a fractured skull and brain swelling. He was transported to Mercy Medical Center, where he was stabilized. Phipps, who only sustained minor injuries, was arrested and booked in Polk County Jail. He faces multiple criminal charges.
