Iowa state Senate passes strict distracted driving bill

On Thursday, February 20 a bill making distracted driving a primary offense passed through the Iowa state Senate.

Senate Study Bill 3191 allows distracted driving to be considered a primary offense. The bill was sponsored by Senator Tod Bowman. Legislators hope that the bill will help curb the rising number of texting and driving accidents.

Iowa Police Sgt. Vicki Lalla who expressed support for the new bill. A House deliberation for the new bill is expected to follow in the coming weeks.
