Early morning pedestrian accident kills 1 on I-80

Around 3:30 a.m. this morning, a pedestrian lost his life after a semi truck made contact with him on Interstate 80 near Tiffin.

The Iowa State Patrol revealed that the pedestrian, a 34-year-old from Illinois, had pulled his vehicle onto the shoulder of the westbound lanes when the accident took place. He was walking towards the back of his car when the semi truck, traveling west, struck him as well as his vehicle.

The semi truck driver fled the scene after the accident. State troopers are asking the public for any information that can help them locate the semi truck and its driver. They also noted that the driver may not have been aware that he or she struck an individual in the accident.

We would like to offer our condolences to the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time.
