Marijuana, methamphetamine found in Des Moines police officer’s car after crash
A Des Moines police officer has been found responsible for a second car accident after being employed with the department for only five years.
The 28-year-old officer was involved in an accident around 1 a.m. on Tuesday morning near East Ovid Avenue. He continued driving for three more miles before asking for help roughly five hours later in regards to his damaged car. The man tried covering up the facts of his situation, but his story didn’t match the damage that was seen on his patrol car.
Other police officers were able to recover marijuana and methamphetamine from inside the officer’s vehicle. He was immediately apprehended and arrested on charges of drug possession and a traffic violation.
This officer is also responsible for a car accident that took place in 2010. The city of Des Moines, as well as the officer, are being sued for the first crash. According to reports, no one was injured in the most recent accident, but the investigation is ongoing.
