Three injured in head-on collision

A head-on collision that happened Saturday night in Auburn, Iowa shut down a highway for nearly three hours and injured three.

Flurries of snow and icy roads factored into a 27-year-old Carroll man losing control of his pick-up truck and crossing over into an oncoming lane. He struck an oncoming vehicle head-on injuring the two people inside the car, as well as himself.

The car that was struck was totaled and rescue workers had to use the jaws of life to remove the 46-year-old driver from the car. He was taken by helicopter to a Des Moines hospital. His passenger, a 13-year-old boy, was treated for non life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.
