Women crash car into river

Police responding to reports of a crash arrived to the scene of an abandoned car sunken into a river at 1 a.m. Wednesday morning in Cedar Rapids.

Linn County Sheriff’s deputies at the 3500 block of Ellis Road, where the crash occurred, were able to identify the owner of the 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix from the car’s registration papers.

Police found the 23-year-old woman and her 23-year-old friend within a mile of the scene, intoxicated in public. According to the women, they were in the car when it spun out of control, sliding off the road and rolling over before tumbling down an embankment into the river.

While authorities were not able to determine at the time who the driver was, since both women were drunk there will be DUI charges.

Luckily, neither of the women were injured in the accident. This is not always the case when it comes to drunken drivers. If you or someone you love has been the victim of a drunk driver, contact the Des Moines drunk driving accident attorneys of , at 877-327-2600 to discuss your legal options.
