Teenage cyclist struck by bus

A 13-year-old Des Moines bicyclist rode in front of a bus at the intersection of Sixth Street and Forest Avenue around 9 p.m. Tuesday, according to police.

The teenager was struck by the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority bus as he entered the intersection perpendicular to oncoming traffic. He was taken to Mercy Medical Center with a broken leg and facial abrasions. Health officials expect him to make a full recovery.

Witnesses report that the bus driver had a green light and that the teenager entered the intersection against traffic. The bus driver has no history of accidents or infractions.

No charges have been filed.
