MO Woman Killed in Iowa Car Accident

A woman from Memphis was killed in a car accident Thursday in Iowa.

According to officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 52 year-old Karen E. Leon, of Memphis, Missouri, was traveling east on U.S. 136 shortly after 5:00 a.m. when the crash occurred. Troopers say Leon’s 1999 Lexus crossed the center line of the road way, into oncoming traffic. Police say Leon’s vehicle moved directly into the path of a westbound pickup truck driven by 60 year-old William Merideth of Keokuk, Iowa.

According to a report from the Scotland County Coroner’s Office, Leon was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Merideth sustained minor injuries and was transported to Scotland County Memorial Hospital for treatment. Police could not comment on the nature of his injuries.
